The Ducky and Pops Ward Soap Box Derby was the brainchild of Marrell "Pops" Ward, Sr., following the unexpected passing of his son, Marrell "Ducky" Ward, Jr., several years ago. The two were avid soap box derby fans and often built cars together. Following Ducky's passing, Pops felt an annual soap box derby was the best way to honor his son and give local children, ages 8-13, an outlet away from computers and the television. And, as such, the Dadeville Soap Box Derby was born. Unfortunately, after only 2 years of derby events, Pops was diagnosed with cancer and passes in 2019. Pop's sons, Michael and James, now continue to build on that legacy of love and commitment and are dedicated to keeping the Ducky and Pops Ward Soap Box Derby a mainstay of Dadeville's Fairs and Festivals. Join us as we celebrate Ducky and Pops Ward and participate in an exclusively American sport, the soap box derby, Saturday, October 5th, 2019, downtown Dadeville, Alabama. Applications and rules are available at Southside Collision, Platinum Collision and the Dadeville Area Chamber of Commerce. Applications are due no later than September 23, 2019. Please call Michael dWard at 334-663-5323 for additional details. Finally, there will be a limited number of cars available for children who may not have the time or resources to build one.
